GENERAL INSTRUCTION (READ BEFORE
BEGINNING)
With the iNET RealTime System, managing products on your web site is simple.
Select a tools button above to add, delete, or modify your product listings in minutes and
in real time. You simply fill out the forms and click submit. That's it your
done. For reference purposes you must include an unique item number. Item
numbers can be a combination of letters and numbers with no
spaces. Fields that are left blank will simply not appear in the listing.Restrictions:
1) When entering your information do
not use the quotation symbol ( " ).
If you need to put something in quotes, or use the symbol for the inch sign, use instead
double apostrophes ( '' ). It looks the same, the
quotation symbol is used by the program and will cause data errors when editing records.
2) Do not use the "#" symbol as a
number sign. This symbol will cause your number to be ignored when displaying
results.
3) For best results type product information
directly into each input field. If you choose to copy and paste input from a work
processor some limitations apply. When creating text in a word processor do not use
formatting features such as the tab key or block quotes etc., as this will transfer
formatting cymbals with the text and may cause information to be displayed incorrectly.
4) Photos must be in either gif or jpeg formats.
Thumbnail photos should range form 50 to 100 pixels in width. Large photo views
should not exceed 300 in width. Larger images can distort page views. Your web site
will be viewed by a wide variety of computer types.
For additional information consult your RealTime Manual or
the FAQ section of the iNET RealTime System's web site at realtimesystem.com . If you are
having technical problems with your site submit a support ticket at inetimage.net.

INTEGRATING THE REALTIME SYSTEM WITH YOUR EXISTING

If you are adding the RealTime System to an existing web site or your constructing
your web site yourself, it is easy to integrate your product listings. Follow the
two steps below for a seamless look for your entire site.
- Add search boxes, links to display categories, and links to
individual products by simply entering html snippets to your web pages. Click here to access the
snippets page then follow the instructions. The snippets page will open in a new
window, close the new window to return to this page.
- Once you have completed step one you need to create a template
page that looks and feels like the rest of your web site. Select one of your web
completed web pages and save a copy of it. This page must be named
template.htm. On you template page there should be a black area to display your
products. At the beginning of this section place three plus signs. Example:
"+++" (with out the quotation marks). Save and upload to your root directory.
If you are using the RealTime System as a plug-in click here to upload your
template to the RealTime server.
FORMATTING PRODUCT PICTURES
Customers buy what they see, therefore it is very important to display
quality pictures of your products. Pictures can be obtained from a manufacturer's
web site, scanning printed catalogs, or by taking the photos yourself. Pictures have
to be in digital format stored on your computer. Pictures stored on your computer
can be edited by a variety of graphic programs. Two that we recommend are Adobe
Photoshop Elements and Paint Shop Pro. Both do an excellent job and are under $100.00.
Trial versions can be download at http://download.com.
Formatting for the web can be done in 3 easy steps:
- Open the image file in your graphics program.
- Adjust color and contrast.
- Resize the image to a width of 150 to 300 pixels depending on
the height to width ratio of the picture. (Example: if the picture is twice as tall
as it is wide resize the width to 150 pixels. If the picture is square resize it to
250 pixels.) Only specify the width when resizing and let the graphics program
maintain the aspect ratio. This will create the enlarged view of your product that
will appear on the details page. Save the image in the jpeg format with an
file extension of .jpg. This is done using the "Save As" feature from the
file menu.
Note: When naming image files do not
leave spaces in the name or use special character such as #,*,=,etc.
Tip: Name the picture with either the name of the product or item
number. By doing this your will avoid confusion later.
- Creating the thumbnail view. After completing step 3
resize the image to a width of 75 to 100 pixels. Use the "Save As"
function again this time renaming the image to indicate the thumbnail view. Example:
If you enlarged view is "menswatch.jpg" you could name the thumbnail
"menswatchTN.jpg" or menswatch_tn.jpg. This will make it easy to locate the two
images when you add them to the listing.
Note: The RealTime System allows you to enter a thumbnail
image as well as an enlarged image. If you choose not to use the thumbnail option
enter the enlarged view in both the thumbnail and photo fields and the system will display
the enlarged view as a thumbnail on the listings page. The advantage of creating and
using thumbnails is faster load time for pages that display multiple products.
- Upload your pictures to the server. This is accomplished
by clicking the "Upload Photos" button and following the instructions in that
section.
